"Many people remember a fallen soldier as a person in uniform. Sometimes that soldier is the four legged friend who saved your life by being a bomb-sniffing dog and finding the IED and warns you about it before it explodes." Michael Hoffman
It is estimated that these dogs save an average of 3-5 soldiers lives A DAY and an average of 150 lives throughout their careers. Wow. That's a 150 people who can go home to their families because of one single K9 soldier's efforts. 150 mother's hearts who will not be broken while they are accepting a folded flag at their child's funeral. 150 parents who will see their children grow up. And untold numbers of children who will not have to grow up without their parent. Because of one dog.
Thank a hero, thank a four legged soldier. And what wonderful soldiers they are. RIP, heroes.
I was originally reluctant to share this photo of stark sadness, but respect, because I was afraid that it would be too much for some people to handle. Well, I was wrong. This is a very sad but beautiful reminder of those four legged heroes who have paid the ultimate price, and one that everyone needs to see. These dogs do this, not because they "love their country" but because they love their handlers....they would and do sometimes die for that loyalty...that is love in its purest form. Thank you to Lynn Walker and Elaine Rose for bringing this photo to my attention. And please share this if you feel moved to do so. ~cheryl
*I do not know the story behind this photo or the manner in which these MWDs lost their lives. If anyone does, please post it below in comments so that I can update it in the description. Thank you.
